Abbe Ann Casey Schissler

Born January 1, 1927 in Chattahoochee, Florida. Lived most of her life in Freeport, Florida before moving to Sandestin in 2003.

She was employed for 13 years by the Postal Service as a clerk and 27 years as Freeport Postmaster, a position held by her mother for 40 years. Abbie was very active in the Postmasters Association at the district and state level, lobbying in Washington and traveling to conventions in such places as Seattle, Honolulu, and Chicago. She served as president of the district and state Postmasters Association.

She was the owner of Franks Cash and Carry Hardware stores in Freeport and Grayton Beach, Florida. This business was established by her and her late husband, Frank William and George Schissler.

Abbie was affectionately known by most of the residents of Freeport by her family nickname, Sis . She was Sissy to her grandchildren and Aunt Sissy to her nieces and nephews. One of the centers of her life was the Freeport Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon, an elder, a Sunday school teacher, and church treasurer, a position she still held at the time of her death. She was chairman of the Women of Freeport Presbyterian Church and also enabler for the Presbytery Women of the Church.

Mrs. Schissler was pre-deceased by her father, William Harvey Casey, her mother, Abbie Annie Howell Casey, and her husband Frank Martin Schissler III, and her brother, Harvey Howell Casey.

She is survived by her sister, Mary Catherine Casey Hinton (Andrew), her three sons, Frank Martin Schissler IV (Nancy), William Howell Schissler, George David Schissler (Mary Ann), four grandchildren, Keri Leigh Schissler Varner (Chris), George David Schissler Jr. Christopher Frank Schissler and William Casey Schissler and two great-grandsons, Jordan and Cole Varner.

Visitation services will be conducted at 6:00-8:00 PM, Saturday, September 27, 2008, at Clary-Glenn Freeport Chapel Funeral Home; 150 East Highway 20, Freeport, Florida 32439.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Sunday, September 28, 2008, at Freeport Presbyterian Church at 340 State Highway 20 East, Freeport, Florida, with Reverend Gene Harris officiating. Pallbearers will be Tony Anderson and grandsons Christopher Schissler, George Dee Schissler, Casey Schissler, Chris and Jordan Varner. Floral arrangements are being accepted or donations may be made to the Freeport Presbyterian Church at 340 State Highway 20 East, Freeport, Florida 32439.

Burial will follow in the Hatcher Cemetery. Immediately following graveside services the family will receive friends at the Presbyterian Church fellowship hall.
