Angus McLean Green

MEMORIAL SERVICE

One of the most impressive services ever held in Darlington community was held on the second Sunday, in commemoration of the life and character of Angus Green.

Mr. Green had spent practically his entire life in this community, and his death leaves a vacant place in the religious and business life, as well as in his home, that cannot be filled.

This service was sponsored by the Sunday school, which Mr. Green had helped organize more than 20 years ago, and in which he had taken a faithful and active part continuously, and in which he was teacher of the Bible class at the time of his death.

The service was opened by Mr. W. A. Royals, superintendent of the Sunday school, and a life-long friend of Mr. Green.

A brief song service was then led by Rev. E. B. Riddle, consisting of favorite hymns of the relatives and the deceased.

The entire service was then turned over to Hon. A. G. Campbell, who first read from the Psalms, and then gave a beautiful and touching, yet comforting tribute to his friend. Among other things, Judge Campbell said: “In this day of selfish ambition, it means so much to have a true friend, whose love is not dampened by any selfish considerations. Such a man, and such a friend, was Angus Green to me; and that is my loss, which is irreparable.”

After prayer by Mr. S. J. Royals, the superintendent then asked the classes to assemble, so that the records of the Sunday school would remain unbroken, feeling, as he stated, that Mr. Green would have wished this to be done. Every officer and teacher was reported present, as well as a large attendance of pupils. “This is a good report,” commented Mr. Royals, in dismissing the service.
