Bobbie Dean Bennett

Bobbie Dean Bennett, 74, of Garland, TX, was born Feb. 6, 1931 in Red Field, IA and passed away Jan. 20 in Garland. He was a southern Baptist minister and retired after 21 years of service from the United States Air Force SAC.

At age four, Bennett was orphaned and had a guardian, Mattie Thompson, who cared for him until the age of 17 when he joined the Air Force. He later, after 60 years, was proudly reunited with some of his family members.

Bennett was predeceased by a sister, Helen Blake.

His survivors include wife, Lorene Bennett; son and daughter-in-law, Duane and Sara Bennett, of Garland, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Bobby K. and Donna Bennett, of Kaufman, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Lora and Mike Abernathy, of Las Cruces, NM; son, and daughter-in-law, Gary and Candy Bennett of Freeport, FL; daughter and son-in-law, Malinda and Frank Vasquez, of Sachse, TX; two brothers, Howard Bennett, of Red Field, IA, and John Townsend, of Pennsylvania; sister, Ruthie Howard of Perry, IA, and 10 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Garland Cockrell Chapel with Rev. Jack Schmid officiating.

Graveside services were held 3 p.m. Wednesday in the DFW National Cemetery.
