Edward Gilbert Meadows Jr.

Mr. Edward Meadows, age 85, of DeFuniak Springs passed away August 10, 2007 in DeFuniak Springs. He was born November 29, 1921 in Alexander City, Alabama to Edward and Lucille Caldwell Meadows.

Mr. Meadows had been a resident of DeFuniak Springs since 1959. He was Catholic by faith and a member of St. Margaret’s Catholic Church. He was a veteran of WWII and Korean Conflict serving his country in the United States Army and United States Air Force with 22 years of service, retiring as a Master Sergeant. He was a member of the last horse drawn Field Artillery. Decorations received were American Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Occupation Medal (Germany), National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal with 5th Bar Loop and Air Force Longevity Service Award with 3 Bar Loop. He enjoyed farming, boating and fishing.

Mr. Meadows was preceded in death by his father Edward Gilbert Meadows Sr. and mother Lucille Sudduth and his wife of 54 years Philomena O’Grady Meadows originally from Carbonear, Newfoundland and one brother Marshall Stanley Meadows.

Mr. Meadows is survived by his four sons Michael Edward Meadows and wife Aura Cecilia Salamanca of Miami, Florida, Stephen Meadows of Niceville, Florida, James Robert Meadows and wife Trecia of DeFuniak Springs, Florida and David Eugene Meadows of DeFuniak Springs, Florida; two daughters Jeanette M. Godwin and JoAnn M.Van Hall both of DeFuniak Springs, Florida; thirteen grandchildren Sylvia Daniel, Jordan Van Hall, Ariel Van Hall, Bobby Godwin, Billy Joe Godwin Jr., Michael Darren Meadows and wife Danielle, Angela Meadows Baca and husband Willie, Justin Edward Meadows, Kevin Thomas Meadows, Matthew Keith Meadows, Adam Marshall Meadows, Tyler James Meadows and Ryan Lee Meadows; 5 great-grandchildren Blake Godwin, Logan Daniel, Brandie Meadows, Sean Meadows and Amanda Baca; one sister-in-law Lina Meadows of Birmingham, Alabama; special niece Carolyn Ferguson and husband Roger, special nephew Earl Stanley Meadows, great-nephews Bart and Barry Ferguson, also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law of Newfoundland.

A time of visitation will be held at 3:00~5:00 PM, Sunday, August 12, 2007 at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church; 247 United States Highway 331 North, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32433. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Monday, August 13, 2007 at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church, with Father Richard Dawson officiating. Floral arrangements are being accepted. Those asked to serve as pallbearers are as Stephen Meadows, Michael Meadows, James Robert Meadows, Jordan Van Hall, Billy Joe Godwin Jr. and Bobby Godwin. Burial will follow in the Magnolia Cemetery, with full military honors.
