Eugene Newhall Vann

Mr. Eugene Newhall Vann, age 85, of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida passed away February 13, 2008. He was born December 8, 1922 in Roanoke, Alabama; son of the late Clyde and Ruth Vann.

Gene was a veteran of World War II, serving in the First Division in the European Theater. He landed at Omaha Beach on D1 making his way across northern France, Ardennes and Central Europe.

Gene was a member of Point Washington United Methodist Church and very active with The Friends of the Coastal Branch Library and Cultural Arts Association. Gene loved to read, travel and drink chocolate milkshakes and was a wonderful loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandpa.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Rose Hilty and his brothers Harold and David Vann and his first wife M. Elsanna (Zane) B. Vann.

Gene is survived by his wife Donna Nadine Vann, one son Ellis Vann and his wife Lisa, one daughter Tina Kell and her husband Scott, one stepdaughter Noreen Buck and her husband Ron and one stepson Bruce Hensen and his wife Jaleanne. Gene is also survived by Grandchildren: Jeremy Vann and his wife Audra, Kristina Drumm and her husband Dan, Tiffany Vann, Cassandra Chapman, David Kell and Mitchell Chapman. Great grandchildren: Skylar, Paige and Peyton Drumm.

Visitation services will be conducted at 6:00~8:00 PM, Thursday, February 14, 2008 at Clary-Glenn Freeport Chapel Funeral Home; 150 East Highway 20, Freeport, Florida 32439, and the family will receive friends 1 hour prior to service time at the Point Washington United Methodist Church, 2-3 PM, Friday, February 15, 2008.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM, Friday, February 15, 2008 at the Point Washington United Methodist Church with Reverend Tim Meadows officiating.

Burial will follow in the Point Washington Cemetery with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Point Washington United Methodist Church building fund, to The Friends of the Coastal Branch Library or Cultural Arts Association.
