Grafton C. Sullivant

Grafton C. Sullivant, of 430 Pineview Lane, Samson, AL, died Friday, May 5, 2006, in Flowers Hospital emergency room from an apparent heart attack. He was 86.

Sullivant was born March 20, 1920 in Ozark, AL, to the late Charlie Oscar and Sarah E. Miller Sullivant. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Prior to his retirement, he was a carpenter for the city of Bartow, FL. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Avanell J. Sullivant, on May 5, 2000 and his grandson, Jason Corey White.

Survivors include four daughters, Elizabeth (Liz) (Charles) White, of Geneva, AL, Denise Cruey, of Bartow, FL, Aline Bloodworth, of DeFuniak Springs, FL, and Sarah Holland, of Albany, GA; four sons, James L. Sullivant, of Geneva, Avern Sullivant, of DeFuniak Springs, Larry Sullivant, of Bartow, and Alan (Marlena) Sullivant, of Freeport, FL; one brother, Clifton Sullivant, of Geneva; three sisters, Nell Fain, of Geneva, Christine Cantor, of Geneva, and Rachael Thompson, of Lynn Haven, FL. Also, 24 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 9, in Devco Baptist Church, with Rev. Olen Strickland officiating. Burial followed in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, with Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva directing. Full military honors were conducted at graveside.
