Harris P. “Jack” Byrd, age74, passed away February 7, 2008 at his home in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. He was born December 13, 1933 in Montgomery, Alabama to Howard and Sarah Ingram Byrd.
Jack received his undergraduate degree at Auburn University and his Masters in Business Administration from Michigan State University. He had a long, successful business career, including executive positions with Heinz Foods, Borden Foods and Flavor House Products of Dothan, AL. In recent years he was CEO of ZooWorld Zoological and Botanical Conservatory in Panama City Beach, FL and CEO of Byrds Riverbend Farms in Montgomery, AL and Chairman of Courtesy Leasing in Montgomery, AL.
Jack is survived by his loving wife Mary, his sons Jeffery Harris Byrd and wife Cindy of Montgomery, AL; Christopher E. Byrd and wife Joey of Huntsville, AL; Brian Patrick Byrd of the home; grandchildren Carolyn Byrd and Nicholas Wilson Byrd of Montgomery, AL.
Visitation services will be held at 5:00~7:00 PM, Sunday, February 10, 2008 at St. Rita’s Catholic Church, 135 Moll Drive in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida 32459.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, February 11, 2008 at St. Rita’s Catholic Church, with Father Tom Collins officiating.
Burial will follow in the Gulf Cemetery.
