Helen Gertrude Eagerton Mason

Mrs. Helen Gertrude Mason, age 86, of DeFuniak Springs, Florida passed away March 9, 2008. She was born September 12, 1921, in Birmingham, Alabama to Millard and Clara Simmons Eagerton.

Mrs. Mason was a resident of DeFuniak Springs since 1952. She graduated for Okaloosa Walton Community College with an Associate Degree; she attended the University of West Florida. She was employed with the Walton County Health Department and the First United Methodist Church. She also worked as a bookkeeper and a receptionist with the Walton County Sheriff Department form 1966-1992 before retiring.

Mrs. Mason was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 58 years Clarke Mason, one brother Horace T. Eagerton, and great grandson Andrew Van Long.

Mrs. Mason is survived by her two sons J.A. “Brick” Mason and wife Martha of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida and Richard Mason and wife Renee of Seligman, Arizona, one daughter Mitzie Irvine and husband Phil of Vestavia Hills, Alabama, two sisters Faustine McBride of Pensacola, Florida, and Margaret Albritton of Savannah, Georgia, 8 grandchildren Karen Mason Woods and husband John, Charles Allen Mason, Heather Mason, Monica Mason and husband Steven Montz, Phillip Irvine Jr. and wife Ellen, Anna Irvine Long and husband Bruce, Ryan Mason and Robert Mason.

Visitation services will be conducted at 1:00-2:00 PM, Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at First United Methodist Church; 88 Circle Drive, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at First United Methodist Church, with Reverend Rob West officiating.

Burial will be held at 1:15 PM, Thursday in the Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida.

Pallbearers will be as follows: Dr. Charles Mason, Phillip Irvine Jr., Ryan Mason, Robert Mason and Phil Irvine, Steven Montz, Bruce Long and John Woods.
