SHERIFF BELL OF WALTON CO. DIES AFTER OPERATION

News was telegraphed here yesterday announcing the death of Sheriff Bell [on July 26, 1916], of Walton county, who resided at DeFuniak, and who had held the office named for a number of years. His death occurred at Baltimore, and the remains will probably pass through Pensacola on train No. 1 this afternoon, on the way to DeFuniak, where the interment will take place.

Sheriff Bell was suffering from a tumor on the breast, and had made a trip to Mobile for treatment. Being unable to secure the proper attention at that point, on account of the very serious nature of the ailment, in company with one of his physicians from DeFuniak, he went some several days ago to Baltimore, where treatment at the famed Johns Hopkins hospital was obtained. An operation was performed, but, according to information received here yesterday, he never survived from said operation, and expired either on or soon after leaving the operating table.

He was well and favorably known throughout West Florida as a competent, fearless and careful official, and practically all sheriffs in this part of the state knew him and held him in the highest esteem. A number may be present at the funeral, which may take place sometime Friday afternoon.
