James Whaley Rentiers II

James Whaley Rentiers II, 63, of DeFuniak Springs, FL passed away on the morning of November 2, 2006 surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Jacksonville, FL on April 15, 1943 to the late Anna Marie Hosti and James Whaley Rentiers, Sr. He grew up on Tybee Island, GA.

Rentiers is survived by his life partner, Lisa Ruby; his brother, Charles Joseph Rentiers, and his sister, Sue Breazel, both of Tybee Island, He also leaves three children, his daughter, Kristine Hirsch, and sons, James W. Rentiers, III and Michael Rentiers; seven grandchildren, and his beloved cat, Greystone.

Rentiers was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during the Cuban missile crisis. He had an extended and successful sales career as regional manager for several national companies including Eyedentifier, Inc., implementing the earliest use of biometric technology for human identification. He continued his career with numerous construction projects.

Rentiers had a great passion for restoring vintage Chris Craft boats. In addition, he restored a collection of antique furniture, meticulously returning each piece to its original splendor.

Rentiers will long be remembered and cherished by his family and friends for his amazing quick wit and ability to mentor and guide the family.

Spending his last three years in DeFuniak Springs, Rentiers developed a deep appreciation for the beauty and simple nuances of the town of DeFuniak Springs and its residents.

Deepest thanks and gratitude to special friends Stephanie Dickinson of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, Tony Browning of DeFuniak Springs, Sandra McCumbers of Savannah, GA, and Hospice of the Emerald Coast. Memorialization was by cremation and a celebration of life memorial service.

The family requests any donations in Jim’s honor be made to Hospice of the Emerald Coast.
