Lillian Lucy Rodgers

Lillian Lucy Rodgers, 83, widow of the late William C. “Bill” Rodgers, went peacefully to be with the Lord and family on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2006, in a Haines City, FL, healthcare facility.

Rodgers was born Dec. 29, 1922 in Troy, AL, the daughter of Thaddeus Alex and Alice Naomi Grissett Johnson. She was a gifted seamstress, needle crafter and prolific reader. Lillian and Bill Rodgers left their children with a work ethic and a sense of moral character that they all will be able to model and pass on to their children. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, five siblings and one great-grandson.

Among survivors are her daughters, Ruth Tanner and husband, J.C., of Haines City, Rachel Gillis and husband, Adrian, of Glendale, FL; her sons, James R. Rodgers, of Dothan, AL, Roy Rodgers and wife, Gail, of Samson, AL, Rick Rodgers and wife, Charlotte, of DeFuniak Springs, FL; her sisters, Delphine Spivey, of Skipperville, AL Betty Sue Johnson and husband, Ed, of Enterprise; her grandchildren, Nicky and Neal Deck, Tammy Sauls, Donnie Myers, Debbie Meyers, Emily Tanner, Michael Rodgers; Jamie Rodgers, Nichole Coffield, Miranda Mclnnis, Lyndsey Rodgers and Megan Warren. Nine great-grand-children also survive.

Pallbearers were her nephews, J.R. Helms, Darrell Spivey, David Sanders, Dwight Sanders, and two family friends, Ross Dannelley and Dan McInnis.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2006 at Freewill Baptist Church on Hwy. 52 in Samson, AL.

Burial followed in Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.
