Lula Mae Daughtrey

Mrs. Lula Mae Daughtrey, age 82, of DeFuniak Springs, Florida passed away Monday, October 22, 2007. She was born June 12, 1925 in Ponce De Leon, Florida to Luther and Ethel Stewart Ammons.

Lula Mae Ammons was born and raised in Ponce De Leon, Florida. She married her first husband George E. Smetters in 1946. They had three children Janice, Eddie, and Sharon. They traveled and lived in several places for thirty years with the Air Force. They retired to Lancaster, Ohio and lived there for sixteen years until George’s death. She then moved to Inez, Texas to be near her children where she lived for seven years. She then married Norris Gerald Daughtrey in 1993 and moved to DeFuniak Springs, Florida where she lived until her death. Lula was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all that knew her. She had a great love for family, friends and chasing butterflies. Her family was everything to her. She will surely be missed. Rest in peace mama. She was Baptist by faith and a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.

Mrs. Daughtrey was preceded in death by her father and mother, one brother Ralph Burl Ammons, two sisters Alice Riley and Iris Ward and first husband George E. Smetters.

Mrs. Daughtrey is survived by her husband Norris Daughtrey of DeFuniak Springs, Florida; one son George Edward Smetters Jr and wife Brenda of Victoria, Texas; one step-son Norris Daughrey Jr and wife Vivian of Mossy Head, Florida; two daughters Janice Lou Bastian and husband John of Inex, Texas and Sharon Stoddard of Jacksonville, North Carolina; one brother Doyle Ammons and wife Lola of Ponce De Leon, Florida; three sisters Velma Ward and husband Paul of Ponce De Leon, Florida , Renee Donaldson of Ponce De Leon, Florida and Linda Shaw and husband and Perry of Jessup, Georgia; seven grandchildren; ten step grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren, one step great grandchildren , also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

A time of visitation will be held 6:00~8:00 PM, Thursday, October 25, 2007 at the Chapel of Clary-Glenn Funeral; 230 Park Avenue DeFuniak Springs, Florida. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, FridGy, October 26, 2007 at the Chapel of Clary-Glenn Funeral Home, with Dr. James Johnson and Reverend Owen Smith officiating. Active pallbearers will be Billy Bearden, Nick Bearden, Jason Johnson, Brian Freeman, Steve Byrd and Sean Sandidge. Floral arrangements are being accepted or donations may be made to your favorite charity, or to Covenant Hospice at 2223 South Ferdon Blvd., Crestview, Florida 32536. Burial will follow in the New Ponce De Leon Cemetery.
