Lunny Mixon Strickland

Lunny Mixon Strickland, age 81, of DeFuniak Springs, passed away on Saturday, April  24 [1999], in Crestview. Born on November 4, 1917 in Ozark, Ala., he was the son of the late F. A. Strickland, Sr. and Jennie Blankenship Strickland. He was a lifelong resident of Walton County and a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. He was a Member of the CCC in 1937. A welder, a pulp wooder, and truck driver for Walton County, and Mr. Strickland was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Mr. Strickland is survived by five sons: Mickey Mixon and wife Evelyn Strickland of DeFuniak Springs; Jessie Arnold Strickland of Tallahassee; Lloyd Timothy and wife Lisa Ann Strickland of DeFuniak Springs; Lonnie Daniel Strickland of DeFuniak Springs; and Patrick Samuel Strickland of DeFuniak Springs; six daughters: Shirley Evelyn Norris of DeFuniak Springs; Gennie Bell and husband John Angus Harris of DeFuniak Springs; Linda Marie and husband Freddie Lee Watson of DeFuniak Springs; Sarah Lea and husband Ferman Lamar Howell of Crawfordville; Esther Louise Strickland of Tampa and Eunice Elaine Boulineau of Crawfordville; Two brothers: F.A. and wife Belle Strickland and Aaron and wife Nettie Strickland of DeFuniak Springs; three sisters: Lurie Mae Radford of [Gainesville]; Ruby Jones of Milton and Eloise and husband Raymond Simmons of DeFuniak Springs; 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was also survived by Evelyn Hazel Strickland, to whom he was married for 45 years.

Funeral services for Mr. Strickland were held Tuesday, April 27, 1999 in the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Watts and Rev. Owen Smith officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Scott Mixon Howell, Benjamin Angus Harris, Steven Keith Harris, Dennis Lamar Harris, Haward Clarence Norris Jr. and David Lawrence.
