Mildred Campbell

July 4, 2006 marked Independence Day for Mildred Campbell as she overcame the limits of her disease and joined Leon, her husband of 62 years, around the feet of Jesus. Born to George and Mary Commander on December 14, 1922 and raised in Darlington, FL, Mildred was a life-long resident of Walton County.

Mildred passionately devoted her life to raising her three children, Wayne, Larry, and Sue, as well as two granddaughters, Jennifer and Michelle. Her loving legacy of faith and devotion transcends the generations as she leaves behind her children, Wayne Campbell, of Darlington, Larry Campbell, of Darlington, and Sue Yearwood and husband, John, of DeFuniak Springs, FL; grandchildren, Michelle Layton and husband, Robert, Jennifer Hagan and husband, Greg, David Campbell, Jason Campbell and wife, Ashley, and Gabriel Yearwood, as well as seven great-grandchildren, Matthew, Cade, and Carolina Layton, Kelby and Cason Hagan, and Kaia and Zoe Campbell.

As with numerous family and friends, Mildred will also be deeply missed by her close friend and caregiver, Dorothy Bunch. With the compassionate support of Council on Aging of DeFuniak Springs and Covenant Hospice of Crestview, FL, she was able to remain at home under the loving care of her family. Despite the fact that she will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her, there is no doubt that she is reaping the glorious rewards stored for her in heaven following her many years of dedication and service to the Lord.

Funeral services were scheduled for 3 p.m., Thursday, July 6, from the Darlington Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

The family received friends one hour prior to the service.
