Susan Jones

Susan Jones passed away suddenly on Monday, February, 20, 2006, after suffering a brain aneurism the previous day.

Born and raised in the panhandle of Florida, Susan attended Florida State University, earning a degree in music. She married her childhood, high school, and college sweetheart, Tommy, in 1968, and moved to Texas, settling in the Houston area in 1976.

She used her degree for the rest of her life, serving as director of music ministry for the three churches she and her family attended throughout those years. In 1998, she completed her studies at Perkins Theological Seminary, Southern Methodist University, and later that year was ordained by the Methodist Church as a deacon.

Throughout her career, she touched the lives of countless souls, from the youngest child in her children’s choir, to the faithful members of her adult choirs, through the elderly members of her “Prime Chimers”. She was truly loved by many.

Her passion was her family. She is survived by her beloved husband, Tommy; son, Mac Jones and wife, Merideth; son, Josh Jones and wife, Kelli; son, David Jones and wife, Molly; grandchildren, Kate Jones and Henry Jones; sister Sarah Stedman and husband George; brother, Jim McCall and wife, Ginny; and other beloved family in Texas, Florida, and Alabama. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, James and Doris McCall of DeFuniak Springs, FL.

A memorial service was held at Faith United Methodist Church on Thursday, February 23, followed by a reception at the church. The family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Susan Jones Memorial Fund, care of Faith United Methodist Church.
