Arthur R. Cormier

Arthur R. Cormier, 78, of DeFuniak Springs, FL, formerly of Uxbridge, MA, died July 23, 2006 at his home. He was born on July 2, 1928 in Fall River, MA, to J. Alfred and Helen (Blouin) Cormier. He graduated from Uxbridge High School in 1945, earned a B.S. in electrical engineering from Tri-State College in Angola, IN, and an M.S. in natural sciences from Worcester State College.

Cormier served in the U.S. Navy for six years during the Korean War. During his career as an electronics engineer, he invented and patented a combination visible light detector and ultraviolet detector circuit, used in transportation fire detection systems. He also taught math and science at Grafton High School and at Bradenton Academy in Florida.

Throughout his life, he was active in many organizations, including the Cub Scouts, PTA, Jaycees, and various church groups. He was a member of the Glendale Presbyterian Church in Glendale, FL. He enjoyed his retirement, which included teaching Navajo children at a Christian mission school in Arizona.

Cormier is pre-deceased by his parents and both his brothers, J. Alfred, Jr. and Edward. He leaves his beloved wife of 54 years, Marcia (Rawson), and their four children, Robert Cormier, of Uxbridge, Barbara Cormier of Niceville, FL, Laura Warmbrod, of Butler, PA, and Mary Jane Cormier, of Kalispell, MT. He also leaves one niece, Mary Clark of Thomaston, CT; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
