Bonnie Lois Buie Hillard

Mrs. Lois Hillard, age 98, of DeFuniak Springs passed away May 16, 2008. She was born August 22, 1909, in Geneva County, Alabama, to Malcolm and Netti Harvard Buie.

Mrs. Hillard had been a resident of Walton County since 1933. She finished school in 1928 after which she taught school a number of years. She married Jenkins J. Hillard in 1933. She attended Nursery School training at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida, then went on to teach Nursery School and also did substitute teaching in Walton County a number of years. She served as Brownie Scout leader in 1947, and was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, and a member of the Thorpe Vest Sunday School Class, and she was a member of the choir for 40 years.

Mrs. Hillard was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jenkins J. Hillard of 64 years and one brother Leroy Buie.

Mrs. Hillard is survived by her one son J. Buie Hillard of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, and one daughter Bonnie Sue Holcomb of Tallahassee, Florida, five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at First United Methodist Church; 88 Circle Drive DeFuniak Springs, with Reverends Rob West, Jesse Evans and Bobby Ellisor officiating.

Family will receive friends immediately following funeral services at the First United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church at PO Box 9, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435, or to your favorite charity. Burial will follow in the Magnolia Cemetery.
