Carolina Johanna Bakker Hanlon

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Carolina (Lynn), a deeply loved mother, omi, and great grandmother.

Born in Maastricht, Holland, to Cornelius J. and Johanna Bakker, she married the love of her life, Leonard Hanlon, in Maastricht, Holland and moved to the United States in 1958 to become a proud U.S. citizen and military wife of 35 years.

A resident of Niceville, she was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Willhelm Bakker. She is survived by her sister, Corrie Bos and husband Charles; brother, Hans Bakker and wife Annemie; as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Holland. Surviving children include daughters, Diana Armbruster and companion Rex Brannon of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., Joanna Tousignant and husband Pat of Choctaw Beach, Fla., Carolyn Smith and husband James of Niceville, Fla., and son, Daniel Hanlon of Niceville. Surviving grandchildren are Jennifer Bryan and husband Robert of DeFuniak Springs, Heather Spaid of DeFuniak Springs, Justin Spaid of Warner Robbins, Ga., Scott Tousignant and wife Jeannie of Niceville, Joseph Spaid and wife Kimberly of DeFuniak Springs, Petty Officer 3rd Class Andrew Weaver of Niceville, Jesse Spaid of De-Funiak Springs, Candace Tousignant of Choctaw Beach and Brandon Weaver of Niceville; and great-grandchildren, Katelyn Bryan, Cameron Floyd, Caleb Bryan, Bryson Cox, Skyler Spaid, “Little” Joe Spaid and Kaydance Harrison.

Carolina lived her life to the fullest surrounded by her family and friends both here and in Holland. No one could have asked for a better mother, wife, omi, great grandmother or friend. An amazing woman who touched so many lives, we loved you dearly in life and will love you forever —-“until we meet again,” goodbye.

A time of visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 12, at Heritage Gardens Funeral Home of Niceville.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, at Heritage Gardens with burial following in Heritage Gardens Cemetery. Floral arrangements are being accepted.
