Mrs. Iolene Underwood, age 81, of DeFuniak Springs, passed away June 23, 2008. She was born August 30, 1926, in Mossy Head, Florida.
Mrs. Underwood had been a resident of DeFuniak Springs. She was Lutheran by faith and a member of the First Lutheran Church of Florala, Alabama. She became a Registered Nurse in 1945 and worked for over 30 years before retiring. She was instrumental in starting and maintaining the first Headstart Program in West Orange County. She enjoyed spending time with her family and working in her yard. Mrs. Underwood is preceded in death by her parents John and Alice Campbell and her husband James F. Underwood.
Mrs. Underwood is survived by her two sons James F. Underwood II of Apoka, Florida, and Cecil Underwood and wife Kathleen of Liberty, Florida, one foster daughter Jeanette Osborne of Samson, Alabama, one step- granddaughter Kendra and two step great grandchildren Jeremy and Ashlynn. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation services will be conducted at 9:00-10:00 AM, Friday, June 27, 2008, at First Lutheran Church of Florala, Alabama, 24512 Fifth Avenue Florala, Alabama 36422.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 AM, Friday, June 27, 2008, at First Lutheran Church of Florala, Alabama, with Reverend Jack Betz officiating.
Floral arrangements are being accepted or donations may be made to Covenant Hospice, 4349 Lafayette Street, Marianna, Florida 32446 or to the First Lutheran Church of Florala, 24512 Fifth Avenue Florala, Alabama 36442.
Burial will follow in the Cluster Springs Cemetery.
