Corene D. Martin

Mrs. Corene D. Martin went to be with her beloved Lord and Savior on Dec. 16, 2006, just six days after her 100th birthday.

Mrs. Martin was born in Freeport, FL on Dec. 10, 1906, the only child of Jim and Martha Davis. She taught school in the Freeport area until marrying Monroe Y. Martin on July 5, 1926. They settled in DeFuniak Springs where they raised eight children.

Mrs. Martin was preceded by her parents, Jim and Martha Davis; her husband, Monroe Martin, of 58 years of marriage; her sons, Rev. Davis Y. Martin, and Robert “Bud” Martin and her daughter, Coralyn M. Hollingsworth.

She is survived by her children, Iva M. Adkinson, Rev. Lindsey Martin and wife, Carol, Martha Turner and husband, Wayne, Felton Martin and wife, Donna, Philip Martin and wife, Frances; daughters-in-law, Betty Jo Martin and Betty Jean M. Spiegelhalter, and her husband, R. R. Spiegelhalter;
son-in-law, E.L. Hollingsworth and wife, Gloria; 20 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchidren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006 at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home, with Revs. Hubert McCrary, Robert West, and Randy Nelson officiating.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Robert C. Martin, Jimmy Martin, Timmy Martin, Andy Martin, Bobby A. Martin, Nick Martin, Mike [Hollingsworth], and Chuck Turner. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons-in-law, Charley Tatom, Robbie Dubus, Steve Porter, Ronald Montgomery, Peter Wong, Terry Posey, Ted Ayers, James Brown, John Petty, and Tom Fleetwood.

The family will have a luncheon at the First United Methodist Church immediately following the service.

Floral arrangements are being accepted.

Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery.
