Edith Pearl Lewis

Edith P. Lewis, 87, a resident of Columbia City, IN, died early Thursday morning, Dec. 21, 2006 at The Oaks Living Center where she had been a resident since October 2005.

She was born Oct. 10, 1919 in Rankin, Illinois a daughter of Charles and Mary Cather (Smith) Rollins. Her formative years were spent in Rankin. She graduated from Rankin High School.

On Aug. 3, 1936 she was united in marriage to Donald F. Lewis. They made their home in Paxton, IL until 1952 when they moved to Kosciusko County. In 1970 they moved to DeFuniak Springs, FL until 1999 when they moved to their present home just north of Columbia City.

She was assistant manager of Lord’s Clothing Store in Warsaw for several years.

Her memberships include Trinity Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Walton County, Florida Homemakers Club and was former president of the 50+ Club in DeFuniak Springs.

Surviving relatives include her husband, Donald; five daughters, Donna (Bill) Achenback of Fort Wayne, Judy (Ted) Dobbins of Warsa, Rita (Ron) Longenbaugh of Columbia City, Sandra (Bruce) Allison of Dover, DE and Debra Chinworth of Kennesaw, GA; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles Lewis; an infant daughter, Rosemary Lewis; four brothers, Ralph, Albert, Everett and Lawrence Rollins; and a sister, Estella Ketchum.

The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, December 23, 2006 at Trinity Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 708 West Business 30, Columbia City with Rev. Ross O’Dell, church pastor, officiating. The visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the church.
