Elwyn Allison Spence

Elwyn Spence, age 73, of Anniston, Ala., passed away Dec. 24, 2006, in DeFuniak Springs, Fla. He was born on Nov. 8, 1933, in DeFuniak Springs to Bert and Susan Donaldson Spence.

Mr. Spence was a resident of Anniston and originally from DeFuniak Springs. He was Baptist by faith. He graduated from Walton Senior High School in 1952. He received many awards and honors including President of the Student Government. He graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor’s degree in forestry. He was a veteran of the United States Armed Forces serving his country in the U.S. Army. He worked at Eglin Air Force Base Civil Service in the Forestry Division. He retired as a forester with the U.S. Navy from Charleston, S.C.

Mr. Spence was predeceased by his father and mother, and wife, June Spence.

Mr. Spence is survived by his son, Bert Spence and wife Susie of Birmingham, Ala.; two daughters, Celia Spence of Stamford, Conn., and Susan Spence of Houston; one brother, Delbert Spence and wife Gwen of DeFuniak Springs; three sisters, Thelma Anderson and husband D.L., Mildred Boland, and Irmalee Bass and husband Jack, all of DeFuniak Springs; and three grandchildren Lauren Bayless, Arrany Spence and Ryan Spence.

A time of visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel, 230 Park Ave., DeFuniak Springs. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home with the Rev. Glen Spence officiating.

Floral arrangements are being accepted.

Burial will follow in Southwide Baptist Church Cemetery.

Those asked to serve as pallbearers are Bobby Boland, Raymond Boland, Mark Anderson, Larry Anderson, Ronnie Jones, Cap Pooser and Dillion Lund.
