Franklin Delano Masters

Franklin “Pops” Delano Masters, 71, of Mossy Head, FL passed away Nov. 5, 2006 at his resident. He was born Sept. 17, 1935 in Indianapolis, IN to Edward and Ethel Long Masters.

Masters had been at resident of Mossy Head since 1977 moving from Indiana. He was a veteran of the Unites States Air Force serving his country during the Korean War and retiring after 20 years of service as a staff sergeant. He also served 12 years overseas with two tours of duty in Vietnam and US Air Force for 10 years Inactive Reserves. He worked at C.P. Lesh Paper Company in Indianapolis, IN at age 16 from 1951 to 1953, in the Sample Department, mail clerk and delivery boy for 18 months. He was a prison guard in Plainfield, IN for 11 months, worked on Union Pacific Railroad as track [maintenance] for one year. He worked at Greencastle Ford Factory as a spot welder for eight months. He worked in Van Bibbers Lake, Green-castle installing skirting and awnings, moved to Ft. Walton Beach in. Oct. 1977 after three years and owned and operated three auto salvages yards, operated a Trailer Park and owned Frank’s Place in Mossy Head.

Masters was predeceased by his father and mother; his wife, Hannelore H. Masters; one daughter, Tonda M. Masters; one grandson, Damian Masters; three sisters, Mildred J. Masters Crowe, Virginia C. Masters Parris, and Charlotte Shoemaker two brothers, Allen Junior Masters and Darvin Masters.

Masters is survived by his two sons, Hoover Zahel and wife, Elaine, and Alex Zahel and wife, Vanessa, all of Mossy Head; one daughter, Caroline C. Johnson and husband, Roy, of Mossy Head; one brother-in-law, Pete Shoemaker, of Indiana; one sister-in-law, Ellen Masters of Indiana; nine grandchildren, Grace, Hanna, Nora Mae and Joshua Zahel, Rebecca and Jacob Johnson, Rodney Brown, Stephanie Whitlock, and Scarlet Witherspoon.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Friday, Nov. 10, 2006 at Bittles-Hurt Funeral Home, 602 East Washington Street, Greencastle, IN 46135.

Floral arrangements are being accepted.

Burial will follow in Brick Chapel Cemetery.
