Ms. Gertrude Mae Yates, 85, of Darlington, FL, passed away Feb. 17, 2007. She was born Dec. 18, 1921 in Largo, FL to father Mose H. Melvin and mother Annie Jewell Bailey.
Yates had been a lifelong resident of Westville, FL. She was Baptist by faith and was a faithful member of Darlington Baptist Church.
Yates is survived by her five sons, Raymond Eugene Yates, of Darlington, Wade Yates, of DeFuniak Springs, FL, Howard Yates, of New Hope, FL, Randall Yates, of Darlington, and Johnny Yates, of Darlington; two daughters, Martha McCormick of Geneva, AL and Sue McCormick of Darlington. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Yates is also survived by her two brothers, Edward Melvin, of New Orleans, LA and Jack Melvin, of Chipley, FL; four sisters, Lois Jackson, of Graceville, FL, Velma Gregory of New Orleans, AL, Stella Coley, of Clearwater, FL, and Mable Melvin of Chipley, FL.
Funderal services were conducted Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2007 at Dalington Baptist Church with Pastors Frank McIntosh and Terry Smith officiating.
Burial followed in the Darlington Baptist Church Cemetery.
