Henry Grady Mason, Jr.

Henry Grady Mason, Jr., 88, died Aug. 31, 2006 in Santa Rosa Beach, FL. He was born to Henry Grady Mason and Louella Gradie Edwards Mason in Gainesville, GA, Jan. 14, 1918. He moved with his family to Birmingham, AL, at age three and chose it as his lifelong home.

Mason was a graduate of Ensley High School where he was a member of the National Honor Society. He was a long- time member of the City Salesmen’s Club, Osceola Masonic Lodge # 644, a past president of the Credit Executives of Birmingham, and a past president of the Exchange Club of Highlands. He served as a member of the Finance Committee of Crestway Baptist Church, treasurer of the South Avondale Baptist Church, and as treasurer of the 11th Avenue Methodist Church.

Mason was a career employee of Fuller Supply Company for 70 years, most recently serving as vice-president – treasurer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eliza Anne Fagan Mason, who died June 15, 1991, and by his parents.

Mason is survived by his sister, Katherine Lucille Mason Stephenson, of [St.] Louis, MO; brother, Charles Ray Mason, of Tulsa, OK. He is also survived by nephews and nieces, William L. Stephenson, Jr. of Santa Rosa Beach, Judy Karen Stephenson Schulte, of Kimberling City, MO, Kathryn Ann Stephenson Newcomb, of St. Louis, MO, Charles Lance Mason, of Tulsa, and Ladelle Mason of Tulsa, and numerous great-nephews and great- nieces.

Mason will be remembered as one who served others, through his church, through his work, through his social organizations and by his family. In all of his endeavors, he worked as the consummate “Southern Gentleman.” We are all better people having witnessed the example he set for living.

Services will be held at Rideout’s Roebuck Chapel in Birmingham, AL, on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2006. Visitation will be held an hour before the services, with Dr. James Wilson officiating. Eulogy will be given by Steve Stephenson.

Burial followed in the Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, AL.
