Howard Joshua Sutton

Howard “Josh” Joshua Sutton, 77, of DeFuniak Springs, FL, passed away Sept. 8, 2006 at Healthmark Regional Medical Center in DeFuniak Springs. He was born Feb. 17, 1929 in Bonifay, FL to Allen and Anna Sutton.

Sutton had moved to DeFuniak Springs at a young age and lived here most of his life. He was Baptist by faith and a member of Baldwin Baptist Church in DeFuniak Springs. He joined the US Navy as a teenager. He also served in the US Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War. During military duty he was stationed in Japan, San Sausalito, CA, Mobile, AL, Syracuse, NY, and Kansas City, MO. After military service he worked for Pan American Airlines, RCA, and Unimac. For over 20 years he served as an engineer on tugboats on the Mississippi River.

Sutton was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in the late [1980s] and was a resident of Chautauqua Rehabilitation and Nursing Center since 1993.

Sutton was predeceased by his father and mother, his wife, Doris Goodwin Sutton, brother, Robert Sutton, and granddaughter, Amanda Jane Sutton.

Sutton is survived by his two sons, Howard Richard “Rick” Sutton and wife, Glenda, of DeFuniak Springs, and David Wayne Sutton and wife, Joan, of Greenwood, FL; brothers, and sisters, Nanette Tappan, of DeFuniak Springs, Leslie Sutton, of Palm City, FL, Frank Sutton, of Hatfield, AK, Bruce Sutton, of Tokyo, Japan, Yvonne Sinclair, of DeFuniak Springs, Eunice Rushing, of Ponce de Leon, FL, and Eloise McLean, of Horseshoe Beach, FL; grandchildren, Benjamin Sutton, of Louisville, KY, and Holly Sutton Mudd and husband, Jay, of Alvin, TX. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 11, 2006 at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home, with Reverend Richard Murray officiating.

Burial followed in Magnolia Cemetery.
