Hubert Alberton Bell

Hubert Alberton Bell, age 93, of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013, at his residence. He was born July 29, 1919, in the Gum Creek Community of which he was proud to be a life-long resident. Hubert served his country faithfully in the United States Navy during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Seminole. He was a self-employed farmer and contractor. Hubert was one of the founders of the First Federal Bank in DeFuniak Springs and served on the board of directors. He was also owner of Med Financing of DeFuniak Springs and served as County Commissioner for Walton County.

Hubert is preceded in death by his parents, Jeff and Milbra Bell; two sisters, Bertha Webb and Lois Bell; and one brother, Darius Bell.

He is survived by two sons, Douglas Wayne Bell and wife Linda and Larry Hugh Bell both of DeFuniak Springs, FL; one brother, Jack Bell and wife Doris of DeFuniak Springs, FL; two sisters, Edna Mae Ray of DeFuniak Springs, FL and Mildred Rodgers and husband Jimmy of Panama City, FL; one special sister-in-law, Willie Bell Bell of Tallahassee, FL; five grandchildren, Douglas Wayne Bell, Jr., Larry Wayne Bell and wife Stephanie, David Bell and wife Barbie, Perry Bell and wife Jennifer, and Carrie Ann Williams and husband Israel; 13 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.

A time of visitation will be held Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at Davis-Watkins Funeral Home, 1474 Highway 83 North, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32433 from 6 until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 27, 2013, in the chapel of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home beginning at 2 p.m. with Reverend Tucker Aplin officiating. Committal services will follow at Glendale Presbyterian Church Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Navy. Those serving as pallbearers will be Jackie Bell, Doyce Nowling, Jimmy Rodgers, Shon Edwards, Larry Tankersley, and Randall Yates. Honorary pallbearers will be John Danilow, Wilson Holley, Lloyd Dobson, and Adrian Gillis. Flowers are being accepted, or in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Glendale Presbyterian Church or Piney Grove Methodist Church.
