James Jeff Darby, Jr.

Mr. James Jeff Darby, Jr., age 74, of Westville, Florida passed away January 14, 2008 in Florala, Alabama. He was born June 13, 1933 in Walton County, Florida to James Jeff and Ollie Alma Peterson Darby, Sr.

Mr. Darby had been a resident of Walton County since June of 2003 moving here from Pennsylvania, where he had lived for thirty-eight years, originally, James was from Darlington, Florida, where he attended the Darlington school. He was Holiness by faith and a member of the Outreach for Christ Church in Darlington, and a former member of the Kittanning Free Methodist Church where he was a youth Sunday school teacher. He served on the Board of Trustees and Usher. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and Vietnam Era, serving our country in the United States Army from March 1951 to October 1965, after leaving active duty he joined the United States Army Active Reserve and was Honorable discharged in August in 1979. James worked as a Plant Supervisor at AGWAY Inc. in Kittaning, PA for over 26 years as a crew leader. He was a member of the local # 341 American Federation of Grain Millers, A.F.C. CIO Kittanning, PA. where he served as President for 10 years.

Mr. Darby was preceded in death by his father and mother, his wife, Mary (Ashe) Darby, they were married July 11, 1957 while both were stationed at Ft. McCllean, Alabama; one son, James K. Darby; two brothers, Monroe Darby and James B. Darby and two sisters, Bertha Mae Connad and JoAnn Hare.

Mr. Darby is survived by one son, Jeff Darby, III of Kittanning, Pennsylvania; two daughters, Dorothy R. Yount of Kittanning, Pennsylvania and Candlynn Smith of Darlington, Florida; one brother Preston W. Darby, Sr. of Darlington, Florida; five sisters, Lucille Henderson of Houston, Texas; Betty Jean Duhig of Houston, Texas; Minnie Elenore of Hempstead, Texas, Ruth Forehand of DeFuniak Springs, Florida and Vera Carpenter of Jackson, Florida. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

A time of visitation will be held at 6:00~8:00 PM, Thursday, January 17, 2008 at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel; 230 Park Avenue DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Friday, January 18, 2008 at Outreach for Christ Church in Darlington, Florida with Reverend Curtis Manning officiating. Burial will follow in the Darby Cemetery with military honors. Floral arrangements are being accepted.
