Joy Major Oliphant

Joy Major Oliphant, 65, of Panama City, FL, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, in Bonifay, FL. She was born on Oct. 31, 1940 in Delaware, OH.

Oliphant had lived in Panama City for over 12 years. She was Apostolic by faith. She had worked as a professional secretary with the Alaskan pipeline and the U.S. government. She had also attended Ohio State University. She loved her dog, Moe, and her special friend and neighbor, Lorraine Riley. She very much appreciated the nurses of the Hospice of Emerald Coast.

Oliphant, because of health complications, was placed in a Bonifay nursing facility in the summer of 2005. There, she was cared for by a very professional staff of nurses until she passed away.

Oliphant was preceded in death by her parents, Orin and Janiece McGlone, and one son, Keith Oliphant.

Joy Oliphant is survived by her husband, Robert J. Olipida; one son, Rev. David W. King and wife, Karen, of DeFuniak Springs, FL; four daughters, Amy and husband, Rev. Donald G. Moore, of Laurel, MS, Barbara and husband, David Marell, of Destin, FL, Sue and husband, Mike Gilliland, of Jacksonville, FL, and Yvonne Purifay, of Tuscaloosa, AL; one brother, Bill Webb, of Powell, OH; one sister, Maxine Harden, of Columbus, OH. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Memorialization will be by cremation.
