Melva Ray Rooks

Melva Ray Rooks age 68, of Bruce, Florida passed away Saturday, September 19, 2009 at Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast. He was born January 30, 1941 in Bruce. Melva enjoyed fishing, hunting, and watching his grandson play ball.

Melva is survived by his loving wife, Gayle Rooks; one son, Pistol Rooks and wife Erin of Choctaw Beach, Florida; one daughter, Paula Simpler and husband Brian of Bruce, Florida; one brother, Fred Rooks and wife Beverly of Springfield, Missouri; two sisters, Shirley Evans and husband Donald of Freeport, Florida and Jeanette Scroggins and husband Shelly of Wewahitchka, Florida; one grandson, Dalton Simpler of Bruce, Florida; and numerous extended family and friends.

A time of visitation will be held Monday, September 21, 2009 at Davis-Watkins Funeral Home, 1474 Highway 83 North, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32433, from 6 until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at Bruce United Methodist Church beginning at 2 p.m. with Reverends Elaine Barrow, Mike McVay, Bill Young, and Bruce Benedict officiating. Those asked to serve as pallbearers include Al Howell, Rob Evans, Dave Evans, Bobby Miller, Arthur Gomillion, George Carter, and Boman Monk. Interment will follow at the Red Bay Cemetery. Flowers are being accepted.
