Carlton Graves Rhodes

Mr. Carlton Graves Rhodes, age 82, of DeFuniak Springs, Florida passed away after a long courageous battle with cancer on February 5, 2008. Carlton was born March 19, 1925 in Birmingham, Alabama and resided in DeFuniak Springs, FL. Carlton was Baptist by faith and a member of the First Baptist Church where he also served as a Deacon. He was a WWII veteran serving his country with honor in the United States Navy and was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge F & AM # 170. Carlton was employed at Eglin Air Force Base as Journeyman Lineman for over 30 years. He continued his profession as a master electrician performing electrical and refrigeration work long after his “official” retirement from Eglin.

Carlton was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Nioma O’Neil Rhodes, one son Philip David Rhodes, one sister Faye Caswell and one brother Robert Rhodes.

Carlton is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patricia Rhodes of DeFuniak Springs, Florida; one son Jack Rhodes and fiancée Beth Monk of Freeport, Florida; one daughter Rhonda and husband Joe Gaudino of Tallahassee, Florida; two grandsons David Philip Rhodes and William Pierce Rhodes both of Freeport, Florida.

Visitation will be held from 6:00~8:00 PM, Thursday, February 7, 2008, at the First Baptist Church; 216 Live Oak Ave. DeFuniak Springs, FL 32435.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 AM, Friday, February 8, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in DeFuniak Springs, with Reverend Jerry Chumley officiating.

Graveside services will follow in Magnolia Cemetery, with Military Honors.

Pallbearers will be Freeman Anderson, Melvin Rhodes, Clinton Rhodes, Ralph Rhodes, Bill Brock and Jack Butts. Honorary pallbearers are A.D. Shaw, Joe Anderson, Thomas Rhodes, Roy Rhodes, Billy Ray Rhodes, Herbert Hinote and Bill O’Neal.
