James Bates

Mr. James Bates, age 69, of Freeport, Florida passed away October 28, 2007 in DeFuniak Springs, Florida. He was born March 15, 1938 in Kona, Kentucky to Astor Buel and Anna B. Layne Bates.

James was a resident of Walton County and was Baptist by faith, He was a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces serving his country in the United States Air Force. James also worked as a welder at the Shipyard in Freeport, Florida.

James was preceded in death by his father, mother, his loving wife Jacquline Castle Bates two brothers, John and Buel Bates, Jr. and one daughter, Vicki Bates, and one son James Gregory Bates.

James is survived by his two sons, Donnie Franklin and wife Tracey of Sommerset, Kentucky and James B. Bates and wife Stephanie of Freeport, Florida; two daughters, Jamie Lynn Sabo and husband Nick of Madino, Ohio; Missy M. Dykes and husband Eddie of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida; two brothers, Bobby Bates and wife Pat of DeFuniak Springs, Florida and Bruce Bates of Freeport and wife Dorothy of Freeport, Florida. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, J.R. Curry, Joshua Curry, Jacquline Nicole Dykes, Ryan Bates, Kennedi Bates, Rebecca Franklin, Hanna Franklin, Sara Franklin, Jessie Franklin, Ryan Sabo and Nick Sabo and 3 great-grandchildren.

A time of visitation will be held at 6:00~8:00 PM, Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at Clary-Glenn Freeport Chapel Funeral Home; 150 East Highway 20 Freeport, Florida 32439. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at Clary-Glenn Freeport Chapel Funeral Home with Reverend Jason Poole officiating. Burial will follow at Hatcher Cemetery. Those serving as pallbearers are as follows Anthony Bates, Dobbin Bates, Ryan Bates, J.R. Curry, Josh Curry and Ned Chaney. Honorary pallbearer Tony Melvin. Floral arrangements are being accepted.
